Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil, and world's 7th largest metropolitan area. Sao Paulo is the capital of the state of Sao Paulo, which is the most populous Brazilian state. Sao Paulo is a major cultural centre of Brazil. The city has an ethnically diverse metropolitan area, with heavy Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, among other influences. The city is known for its varied and sophisticated cuisine, ranging from Chinese to French, from fast food chains to five star restaurants. There are approximately 62 different types of cuisines, and more than 12,000 restaurants in Sao Paulo. Other venues such as bars, pubs, lounges and discos cater to a variety of music tastes. Although Sao Paulo is not a most touristic city, but museums, restaurants, parks and lively bars may be more representative of Brazil than Rio’s half-day adventure excursions. Ibirapuera Park, Monument to Latin America, Museu Afro Brazil, Museu Arte Brasileira/FAAP, Museu Arte Sao Paulo (MASP), Museu Casa Brasileira, Museu Lasers Segall, Museu da Imagen e do Som, Museu da Lingua Portuguesa, Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM), Museu de Arte Sacra, Museu do Imigrante, Museu do Paulista do Ipiranga and Pinacoteca do Estado are very attractive and worth visiting places in Sao Paulo. Theatre:
It is a common belief that first theatre performance in Brazil was held in Sao Paulo. After the coup of 1964, theater plays started focusing the Brazilian history. There was a number of plays that represented historic moments, among which "O Rei da Vela", "Galileu Galilei", "Na Sela das Cidades" and "Gracias Senor" were most popular. Today, all kinds of plays are performed at Sao Paulo's dozens of theatres, going from classical music, ballet to avant-garde plays.
Sports:
As in rest of the Brazil, football is the most popular game in Sao Paulo. The major football teams in Sao Paulo are; Corinthians, Palmeiras, Sao Paulo FC, and Portuguesa. There are two other small clubs in the city, Juventus and Nacional. São Paulo will be one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, for which Brazil is the host nation. The matches will take place in Morumbi Stadium.
Air Ports:
Sao Paulo has three air ports. Among these three, there two are main air ports; The São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport for the international flights and the Congonhas-São Paulo Airport for domestic and regional flights, it operates flights mainly to Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Brasília. Another airport, the Campo de Marte Airport, serves light aircraft and helicopters.
